Munshiganj District, Bangladesh
Munshiganj district is located in the central Bangladesh. The land of the region in almost low lying area and has no hilly area. Most of the area is flooded in rainy season. The total area of Munshiganj is 954.96 Sq Km. The Geo position of the region is between 23˚29’ to 23˚45’ North Latitude and between 90˚10’ to 90˚43’ east Longitude.
History of Munshiganj District
Today's Munshiganj was once a part of ancient glorious region of Bikrampur. The previous name of the region is "Idrakapur". There was a famous personality named Munshi Hayder Hossain in the Mughal period who was appointed by the Mughol as a local ruler for the region on behalf. Mushi was extremely great and famous for his activities for mankind and formerly Indrakpur was renamed after the great personality Munshi Hayder Hossain. In 1945, the region was promoted as a subdivision by British East India Company for administrative benefits. On March 01, 1984 Munsiganj was declared as a district under Dhaka Division.
